Grand Portage Waterfall

The waterfall at Grand Portage was beautiful. Across the river is the Canadian border. At this time, it is closed due to COVID. No one from the U.S. can enter Canada and vice versa.

A family was canoeing and had walked their canoes from one lake to this lake. The father is putting the first of two canoes into Clearwater Lake.

 The Black-Eyed Susans were prolific along the Gunflint Trail. 

Antique Gas Pump

This antique gas pump is at Trail Center in Grand Marais. I remember pumps like this when I was growing up and thought the numbers went by so slowly. Now, the pumps are digital and the numbers - and price - go up much too quickly.

Running Chipmunk

 Saw this chipmunk running off quickly with its tail up high.

Hummingbird

 The hummingbird had just finished eating and was taking off. It's amazing to see hummingbirds fly so quickly, hover, and move in all directions.

Widow Skimmer

 This is a widow skimmer - a type of dragonfly. It rested on this plant for quite a while.

Black-Capped Chickadee

 The black-capped chickadee is balancing itself as it walks along the birdfeeder. 

Wild Monarda

The butterflies, hummingbirds, sphinx moths, and bees love wild monarda. It is very fragrant and colorful, and adds so much to the garden.

Singing Wren

 This little wren was singing quite a bit. For such a small bird, its song is very loud!

Coneflower

 The coneflowers are blooming. This one has speckles of pollen on the petals.

 At the 4th of July parade in Marine on St. Croix, there was a girl with her goose.
